Santa Monica Mirror endorses Michael Feinstein for re-election

This is the text of my two minute video statement
on Santa Monica CityTV channel 16:

-------------------------------------------

Hi. My name is Michael Feinstein.

It has been an honor and a privilege to have served you on the City Council the last eight years.

During that time, I've worked hard -- and have been effective achieving -- a quality of life, pro-neighborhood, pro-community agenda for Santa Monica.

Why?

First, I bring strong convictions to the City Council on issues people care about.

But I've also worked hard to an effective listener, to learn what I don't know, to be a problem solver and to bring common sense to the daily issues that face us.

I care deeply about the environment, education & child care, affordable housing and small community-serving local business, public transportation, the arts and civil liberties.

I have a long record of opposing inappropriate development in our community

At the same time, I’ve promoted smart land use strategies that allow people to live closer to work, which reduces commutes and pollution.

I've also been a leader in acquiring more land for parks and open space,

playing the lead role in adding the Plastic Mart properties to the expansion of Virginia Avenue Park

and driving the Civic Center deal where we bought land for open space as well as affordable housing and child care, that otherwise would’ve been developed as a commercial office park

I am also working for the City to purchase the Fisher Lumber site before it is sold off and developed, so we can additional field space and expand Memorial Park.

Looking ahead

I want to work with other cities and the county to achieve a truly effective regional approach to homelessness.

I want to see more coordination between the City, School District and College on land use and funding strategies, so that we get the most value and synergy for our dollars.

I also want to bring Light Rail to Santa Monica in our lifetime.

My overall goal is a city of opportunity and quality of life for all – families, youth and seniors, renters and homeowners, workers and small businesses.

This November, all Santa Monicans get to vote for all four seats that are up this year.

Please consider me for one of your four choices.

My name is Michael Feinstein. I ask for your vote.

I won't forget it. Thank you.
