Feinstein, Piera-Avila argue for more people-watching public space at Gateway Triangle in new Santa Monica Esplanade, May 14, 2013

Former Santa Monica Mayor Michael Feinstein and current Santa Monica Urban Forest Task Force member Linda Piera-Avila successfully argued that a proposed open space Gateway Triangle between the new Santa Monica Esplanade (along Colorado Bl.) and the Main St. bridge leading to the new parks in the Santa Monica Civic Center, be redesigned to be more of a non-commercial, public gathering and people-watching space, responding to Policies of the City's Open Space Element to that effect.  The City Council responded positively to their suggestions and gave staff direction to redesign the space in a more open, gathering style manner in keeping with the Open Space Element.
